Documentary "Green Route"

Sunday, February 7, 2010

The film is about the projects funded by European Union in two major Georgian towns – Batumi (Adjara region) and Kutaisi (Imereti region).

A special device has been installed in Batumi, which eliminates medical waste gathered in Adjara region. As of now the medical waste has been completely segregated from other types of waste in landfills. 130 medical institutions working in Adjara are obliged to sort out their waste and pay special tax for their elimination.

Kutaisi is the first town in Georgia where waste is sorted out and managed. European Union spent 200,000 euros for improving waste management there. Under that project colored waste bins have been installed in the streets of Kutaisi: blue ones for plastic waste, yellow ones for waste paper, green ones for everyday waste. Waste that is sorted out in that way can recycled: the first Georgian enterprise that processes plastic and polyethylene items is the clear proof of that, they also produce tiles with the use of secondary raw materials.

That project funded by the EU aims at protection of environment and raising public awareness.
