Founded in 1997 Internews Georgia works to improve access to information for people by fostering independent electronic and print media and promoting open communication policies in the public interest. Internews Georgia’s informational and educational video-audio programming, theoretical and hands-on training, and innovative use of new technology empower general audience and media professionals to actively participate in the political and social decision-making and affect a positive change.

In 2008 Internews Georgia conducted 19 hands-on training courses for mid-career media professionals and youth; produced 46 television programs for youth (20-25 minutes per program) broadcasted by public broadcaster and Imedi, 2 PSAs, 23 live political debates and 23 TV round-tables aired by 23 regional stations, 7 short documentaries, and 40 minutes of digitales; translated 1204 hours of national news from Georgian into Armenian and Azeri for national minorities and re-transmitted through local television stations; published and distributed public posters, a textbook for journalists, and 4 newsletters on TB related issues; conducted one competition for journalists, and generated around 536,000 US dollars income. In the same period of time IG was supported by the following donor organizations: US Agency for International Development (USAID), British Government, Delegation of the European Commission in Georgia, OSCE Mission to Georgia, OSCE HCNM, Internews Network, the Eurasia Foundation, the Public Broadcaster of Georgia, British Council, and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
