Making Sense of EU Information Seminar Held in Telavi


On October 30-31 the Making Sense of EU two-day information seminar was conducted for Telavi Iakob Gogebashvili State University students. The EU institutions, the role of EU in the global policy and EU cooperation with Georgia were discussed in the course of the seminar. 34 stidents from different faculties took part in the workshop.

The event was organized within the framework of Internews Georgia project Making Sense of EU funded by EU. The overall goal of the project is raising awareness of the Georgian youth about EU structures and characteristics of EU work. Within the framework of the project seminars will be held for students and professors in six different cities across Georgia (Gori, Kutaisi, Batumi, Telavi, Zugdidi and Akhaltsikhe).The workshops have already been held in Gori, Kutaisi and Batumi. The workshop speakers included Vasil Chkoidze, President, Centre for European Integration Studies; Kakha Gogolashvili, Director, Georgian-European Policy and Legal Advice Centre (GEPLAC); Robin Liddell, First Councilor, Head of Political, Economic and Press Section, EC Delegation to Georgia and Tina Zurabishvili, Professor, Telavi University. In particular Vasil Chkoidze discussed the history of European integration and various stages of EU expansion, EU’s foreign and security policies, European Neighborhood Policy, political and economic relations between EU and Georgia and its positive results, implementation of Georgia’s Action Plan under ENC. Robin Liddell discussed the European Neighborhood Policy and its action plan for Georgia. Tina Zurabishvili of the University overviewed the European educational programmes, in particular EU exchange programmes and scholarships. In the course of the seminar the students were shown the documentaries on the EU activities. The discussions were held as well. Upon the completion of the seminar ten participants prepared the thesis on EU-Georgian relations. Special prizes were awarded to the best authors - 13 students. All seminar participants were awarded certificates.
